What the site offers
BizToolDesk is a free, independent website for owners, freelancers and bookkeepers at small businesses. It has three parts:
- 7 calculators for the numbers that come up every week: payroll, profit margin, markup, self-employment tax calculator (2026), hourly to salary, business loan and sba loan.
- 9 templates you fill in on the page and download as PDF, Word, Excel or CSV: invoice, receipt, estimate, quote, purchase order, balance sheet, timesheet, profit and loss and expense tracker.
- 2 software guides comparing accounting and invoicing software on published prices, plan limits and features.
There is no account and no paywall. Every tool runs in your browser: we never see the numbers you type, and nothing you enter is stored on our servers (see the privacy policy).
How the calculators are built and checked
Each calculator is a set of plain formulas kept separate from the page, so the same code that shows a result is the code that is tested. Formulas come from published methods and official rate tables, such as IRS Publication 15-T for federal income tax withholding, the Social Security Administration's 2026 wage base, and each state revenue department's withholding tables. Every tax table is labelled with its year and cites its source. Automated tests compare results against worked examples, and the payroll calculator shows a notice for any state whose table hasn't yet been checked line by line against the official 2026 publication.
Every page explains its formula, its assumptions and what it leaves out, so you can check a result yourself.
How the content is written
The site's articles and guides are researched and written with the help of AI tools. Figures are checked against the official sources and vendor pages cited on each page, and worked examples are checked against the calculators themselves. Software guides compare products on their published pricing, plan limits and documentation as of the date shown on each guide; they are not based on paid placements.
How the site is funded
BizToolDesk is free to use and plans to cover its costs with display advertising from Google AdSense. Ads are kept outside the tools themselves, and advertisers have no say over which tools we build, how they calculate or what our guides recommend. The site has no affiliate links: links to software vendors go to their own pages, and we aren't paid when you follow them.
Corrections
If a result looks wrong, a rate is out of date or a guide has a mistake, please tell us with the inputs you used and the source you are comparing against. We correct errors and update the page's date when we do.
